Centred on one of the world’s most charismatic golfers, Spain’s Seve Ballesteros, John-Paul Davidson’s docudrama is an awkward mix of archive, interviews and biopic, showing the young Seve (José Luis Gutiérrez) as the poor son of a farmer, practising on the beach with a homemade club.

Oiled with voiceovers from the late Ballesteros and others (even Jimmy Tarbuck), the real footage is so compelling, it makes you wish Davi💖dson had simply cut a documentary. Yet however under par it gets, it’s impossible not to shed a tear as the final chapter in Ballesteros’ oft-magical lಌife unfolds.
